Blankets and Stars

I looked up,
A shooting star
Was flyin’ through,
Its light so far.

I was thinking
At that moment,
Who am I
To seek atonement.

On the blanket
Next to me
There was you
Dreaming free.

Laid my hand
Upon your heart
It beat fast
And played its part.

What we were
I knew not
But didn’t want
For it to stop.

A thousand times
We tried to leave
but that too
could not conceive.

What to do
I didn’t know
But so soothing
was the flow.

My still hand
On you heart
Pulsing faster
Made me start.

What could be
And what could not
What may happen
And what it ought.

Where were you
All this time
Made me wait
‘t was a crime.

Don’t believe
What they all say
There’s more love
To give away.

We can’t keep it
All inside
Or it’ll leave
No place to hide.

Look up there
The sky is dark,
On this blanket
A pulsing heart.
